RI Science, Technology, Engineering & Math

Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation noticed a decline in young people’s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. In an effort to inspire students to pursue these fields, RIEDC wanted to develop a collaborative and dynamic online STEM environment. PLEXUS developed a secure web-based portal using Microsoft Office Sharepoint that communicates key messages about the importance of STEM education and careers and allows the administration to update it using a content management system. RISTEM can add interactive discussion boards for teachers, internship postings from local businesses, and an area where parents and students can learn more about the RISTEM system.

RI Department of Transportation (RIDOT)

RIDOT needed to integrate their CMS/Oracle Financial System – a multi-agency custom creation of web-based SQL development integrated with a high-end Oracle System intended to replace an outdated standalone FoxPro system. The vendor had to understand the complicated nature of government funding scenarios and report them in a clear and easy-to-understand format. PLEXUS was hired to create and manage an intensive project and financial management system that tracked $375 million annual expenditure. We developed a unique web-based management system that provided a user-friendly interface supported by complex middleware to ensure data was properly collected and analyzed. The system was also equipped to update cash requirements and project future cash flows, which in turn helped to determine the state’s immediate and future bonding needs. Customized reports were used to project necessary federal funds, analyzing by project, project stage (design or construction) and type of funding. The state views the development of this system as a huge success because of its ability to handle dynamic data and produce real-time reports of cash flow and the finding requirements.

Developed an Intranet application to handle edits that must be performed on the data prior to sending response files to various loan institutions. In order to deliver a product that the client can easily maintain, the application is being written using technology familiar to their staff – specifically VB.NET. This new application allows for a more automated process, which will ultimately reduce labor time, reduce paper costs, increase customer service and allow all of the systems to be interconnected. PLEXUS will remain in close communication with the client’s technical staff during the testing phase to assure quality control of the data being produced.

RI Statewide American with Disabilities Act Program

Through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the federal government made funds available to assist the state in making all state-owned roads and sidewalks comply with handicapped accessible guidelines. PLEXUS created a web-based data management and reporting center that updates and reports information pertaining to all of the primary and secondary roadways in the state. The information is also displayed geographically through a web-based geographical (GIS) tool. In creating this system, the key initiative for PLEXUS was migrating and integrating many data sources, including MS Access, Oracle, and SQL Server into a comprehensive intelligent management system. We also created and implemented a custom application on portable systems, with screens that simplified data collection.

Blackstone Credit Union

Blackstone Credit Union wanted to transfer from a paper application to an online application process via their Exchange server. PLEXUS developed a distribution system to streamline the loan process by automatically routing a completed application to the appropriate employee, thus reducing paper use and improving customer service. The online format ensured compliance with the high level auditing requirements and business rules.
